The Chest medicine department of Poona Hospital & Research Centre offers advanced technology in the diagnosis and management of various Respiratory Diseases/disorders like Asthma, COPD, Pneumonia, Interstitial Lung Disease, Lung Cancer, Tuberculosis etc.
The department boasts of a complete Chest Lab, city’s only centre with 360° focus to revive Chest Diseases. The Chest Lab comprises of Impulse Oscillometry, Body Plethysmography, Vyntus Walk.
Procedures routinely performed are:
- Spirometry - Spirometry is helpful in assessing breathing patterns that identify conditions such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, and COPD.
- Diffusing capacity of Lungs for carbon monoxide (DLCO)- DLCO is the extent to which oxygen passes from the air sacs of the lungs into the blood.
- Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), the first of its type in Western Maharashtra where various complex endobronchial diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed
- Thoracoscopy - In thoracoscopy, a rigid telescope is inserted through a small incision in the chest wall to visually inspect the lungs, mediastinum, and pleura.
