Anaesthesia

Anaesthesia allows otherwise painful procedures to be performed without discomfort by temporarily removing or reducing sensation.

There are 3 main types of anesthesia

  • Local Anesthesia
  • Regional Anesthesia
  • General Anesthesia.

‘Local’, or ‘Regional Anaesthesia’, numbs only a specific part of your body; while ‘General Anaesthesia’ draws you into complete unconsciousness. The appropriate quantity of anaesthetic drug is skillfully administered throughout the procedure the degree of numbness or unconsciousness can accurately controlled by the anaesthetist.

FAQ
1) What is Anesthesia?
Anesthesia is a medical process that prevents pain during surgery using medications that induce unconsciousness, sedation, or numbness.
2) What are the types of anesthesia?
The main types are general (unconsciousness), regional (numbs a large area), and local (numbs a small area).
3) Is anesthesia safe?
Yes, modern anesthesia is generally safe, with risks minimized through careful monitoring by anesthesiologists.
4) How long does anesthesia last?
It depends on the type used; local anesthesia lasts minutes to hours, while general anesthesia effects wear off in a few hours.
