History

The Foundation stone of the hospital was laid in September 1982 by Late Shri.Dongreji Maharaj. His auspicious presence and blessings were the motivation for this undertaking of service to society. Poona Hospital & Research Centre was established in 1985 under the aegis of the Rajasthani & Gujarati Charitable Foundation, with the aim of providing quality medical care at a reasonable cost to the public.
The hospital was established entirely through donations from local citizens.

  •   1982 To 1985
    • 1982 : The Foundation stone of the hospital was laid by Shri Dongreji Maharaj
    • 1984 : A Vastu Mangal Pravesh Pooja was held
    • 1985 : A fully equipped 60 bed Poona Hospital & Research Centre opened its doors to the Public
    • 1982 to 2000 : The bed capacity increased gradually from 60 to 250 , with transformation from a general hospital to a multispecialty tertiary care centre.
  •   1986 To 1990
    • 1989 : First kidney transplant performed.
  •   1991 To 1995
    • 1995 :
      • PHRC bulletin , an in house quarterly magazine was launched.
      • Received recognition as Human Cadaver Donor Organ Transplant Centre
  •   1996 To 2000
    • 1996 : Post-Graduate courses (DNB) accredited by National Board of Examiniations begain for the faculty of Medicine.This was followed by addition various other facualties like Cardiology, Neurology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics and Anesthesiology
    • 1997 : A new five storey building , " The Charturbhuj Balmukund Lohia Wing " added to house the OPD , and Private/Luxury rooms.
    • 1998 :
      • The Rasiklal M.Dhariwal Institute of Nursing Education was inaugurated with initial capacity of 20 students.
      • A new Dental facility was added.
      • Omega MRI Scan was established and existing CT scan upgraded to 128 MDCT.
    • 2000 :
      • A well appointed auditorium inaugurated.
      • A unique cardiac rehabilitation programme started for reversal of heart disease " DORH "
      • Received Recognition as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation ( SIRO )
  •   2001 To 2005
    • 2002 : The hospital became a partner with " The Smile Train USA " , an international charitable organisation , to conduct free corrective cleft surgery.
    • 2003 : Dept of Cardiology and Neurology upgraded to the Rasiklal M.Dhariwal’s Centre of Cardiac and Neurosciences, with addition of the latest state - of - the- art technology.
    • 2004 : Acquisition of new cardiac ambulances.
  •   2006 To 2010
    • 2007 : The Rakesh Jain Memorial Blood Bank was established.
    • 2009 : Received NABL certification. for Pathology Department.
    • 2010 : Received ISO 9001 : 2008 certification
  •   2011 To 2014
    • 2011 : A new Audiology department was started.
    • 2012 : The dept of cardiology was upgraded with installation of two latest Cath labs , first of their kind in India.
    • 2013 :
      • The institutional Ethics Committee was registered with Drugs Controller General of India ( DCGI )
      • The dept of radiology upgraded with installation of the Flexavision.
